Backgammon Guru Pro App Reviews

Backgammon Guru holds a lot of promise but alas, has a lot of bugs. The analysis is pretty nice with its ability to reset a game to a certain point in time, point out good and bad moves, and allow you to resume from that point. The AI, a common weak point with other backgammon games, is pretty good. User interface is pretty weak, with 1980s era/Flash-port graphics. It can be hard to select a piece and dropping it on a point can require more precision than it should. But these are minor complaints compared to the quality of the AI. The bugs, though, make this game hard to live with. A new game can set up with a random piece somewhere on the board that is not really there (but will stay there for the game... distracting at best). Resuming a suspended game can result in the rolls being out of sequence (ie youre white and the dice roll is for white but the computer moves the black). And often, a crash takes you right out of the app. Probability of making it though a game? About 90%. I note this is version 1.0.1. Im looking forward to an update.

The best backgammon game Ive seen. Also the buggiest. If it didnt crash regularly this would be a 4 or 5 star review.

The program plays well. However, it is not stable and exits abruptly very often. Also, be aware that to play against the program you require an active Internet connection. If updates fix the stability problem, it will be a good purchase.

App has good scenario but implementation is low quality. App suddenly goes into background, loses current status, graphic interface is error prone. Developers are asked to fix all bugs and release an update. PS. The dice randomness looks suspiciously. Too many subsequent repetitions of the same combination.

Finally !!!!!!! Found one that doesnt cheat. Yay!!!!! But could use colors that are a bit more contrasting and easier to make apart Bartt.

This is an awesome little app with lots of flexibility. It can be just a fun way to play backgammon with an expert and hone in your backgammon skills. It can also serve as a great teaching tool if you want to improve your backgammon skills. Your i-opponent has several difficulty levels. There is a bar on top that shows win/loss percentages throughout the game. YOu can play games with multple points and different options. You can set any positions. You can also go more in-depth and analyze your every move and ask the expert to make the best move for you. At the end of each match you can have the expert review your game and offer a color-coded analysis of your mistakes. The dice appears random. The fun feature is that you have the option of selecting your own dice. So you can choose a random dice or you can select your own dice. When I was losing and really wanted to win, I caved in and selected double 6s. What do you know, I won that game! You can also take this app very seriously, use its expert analysis skills and learn to play better backgammon.

crash, crash and crash

I found a bug with the latest software that allows illegal moves. There is nowhere on the site that I see to contact the company to let them know. Poor.

Great little app, well designed! I especially like the match analysis feature, I find it really helpful.

Just bought this and it seemed to have lots of potential. I prefer the 1-tap moving of Backgammon NJ, but Guru Pro had its own advantages. Then, as soon I changed to OS 4.0 on my 3GS, the program crashed within one or two moves every time. Perhaps they will fix this and I can evaluate this app more realistically if it works again.

A few bugs still to be flushed out (multiple on the bar shows wrong choices of moves, sometimes gets confused about whether youre black or white) but a great educational version.

Crashes frequently and occasionally shows incorrect moves and nonsensical pip positions (eg black & white pips resting on the same point!)

App performed flawlessly. No disappointments. Highly recommended.

Has potential but right now its WAY too slow and cumbersome. User interface needs to be improved. Speed needs to be improved. I regret upgrading to the paid version.

Before it was working fine only on the iPad but now it works great on my iPhone too!

Backgammon Guru is a fabulous app and I look forward to more of the same from this developer!

Potential program but could use updates to improve and become a more active app. Please add a turn-based mode along with tournament play in turn-based mode including player ranking and stats. Graphics look a bit fuzzy on my iPad.

It cheats. Im only an average player but was surprised at how lucky the program got. I started entering my own dice rolls and let the computer roll its own. It made some amazing rolls to prevent a loss.

Very strong backgammon app. Easy to use and fast.
